Biography:

Dr. Buckley is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry within the Forensic Neuropsychiatry division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Tulane University School of Medicine, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He is the Associate Director of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship at the Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Buckley graduated cum laude from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Dr. Buckley returned to Tulane and completed a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry. Dr. Buckley is board certified in Psychiatry and board certified in Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Buckley has multiple publications in The Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL). He is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA). His primary clinical duties include providing competency restoration treatment and long-term care of irrestorably incompetent defendants and insanity acquittees at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System. Dr. Buckley serves on sanity commissions for East Baton Rouge Parish, Lafayette Parish, and Vermilion Parish. Dr. Buckley is an active member of AAPL, serving on the Ethics Committee (2023 to present) and the Early Career Development Committee (2023 to present). Dr. Buckley has served on the Executive Council of the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association since 2017, where he currently serves as LPMA Treasurer (2023-2024) after serving as Secretary (2022-2023), Early Career Psychiatrist Representative (two terms, 2020-2022), Resident/Fellow Physician Representative (2018-2020), and Resident Physician Deputy Representative (2017-2018). In his free time, Dr. Buckley is the President of the Board of Directors and the Camp Director for Camp SKAMP (Special Kids And Meaningful People), a charitable organization in Florida that has provided an authentic summer camp experience for children with physical and intellectual disabilities since 1971.
